K-Drama Filming Locations (촬영지): Places You Can Actually Visit
Standing in the exact spot where a scene was filmed feels different from watching it on screen. Korea has built an entire tourism infrastructure around that feeling.
The bridge where the characters first kissed. The café where the confession happened. The alley where the chase scene ended. K-Drama fans who visit Korea often describe a specific experience: arriving at a filming location and feeling, briefly, that the distance between watching and being there has collapsed. It is a particular pleasure that Korean tourism understands and actively supports.
This guide covers the major filming locations that are actually accessible, consistently worth the visit, and not just a plaque on a wall.
주요 서울 촬영지 (Major Seoul Filming Locations)
북촌 한옥마을 (Bukchon Hanok Village)
One of the most-filmed neighborhoods in Korean television — the narrow alleys, traditional wooden architecture, and elevated views over Seoul appear in dozens of dramas. 도깨비 (Goblin), 개인의 취향 (Personal Taste), and many historical dramas used Bukchon extensively. The area is a real residential neighborhood — visit on weekdays and before 10am to avoid crowds and respect residents.
경복궁·창덕궁 (Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung Palaces)
Both palaces appear constantly in 사극 (sageuk, historical dramas). 이산 (Yi San), 옷소매 붉은 끝동 (The Red Sleeve), 연모 (The King's Affections) all filmed here extensively. The palaces are open to visitors — guided tours in English are available. Wearing 한복 (hanbok) grants free entry and provides the closest approximation of the drama experience.
남산 (Namsan Mountain and N Seoul Tower)
The iconic landmark above Seoul — featured in 별에서 온 그대 (My Love from the Star), 시크릿 가든 (Secret Garden), and countless others. The lock wall at N Seoul Tower, where couples attach padlocks as a symbol of their relationship, features in multiple romance dramas. The cable car or a 30-minute hike reaches the tower.
이태원·경리단길 (Itaewon and Gyeongnidan-gil)
이태원 클라쓰 (Itaewon Class) turned this neighborhood into a pilgrimage site — the DanBam bar location (now a real restaurant) draws visitors who recognize it scene by scene. The steep streets of Gyeongnidan-gil appear in various contemporary dramas set in cosmopolitan Seoul.
성수동 (Seongsu-dong)
Seoul's industrial-turned-creative district appears frequently in contemporary dramas seeking a specific aesthetic — converted factories, independent cafés, art spaces. 스물다섯 스물하나 (Twenty-Five Twenty-One) and several recent romance dramas filmed here.
서울 외 주요 촬영지 (Major Locations Outside Seoul)
전주 한옥마을 (Jeonju Hanok Village)
The largest preserved hanok village in Korea — an entire district of traditional architecture that functions as a period drama backdrop. 킹덤 (Kingdom), 미스터 션샤인 (Mr. Sunshine), and dozens of historical dramas used Jeonju for its authenticity. Accessible and walkable; accommodation in hanok guesthouses extends the experience.
담양 죽녹원 (Damyang Juknokwon Bamboo Forest)
The bamboo forest in 담양 (Damyang, South Jeolla Province) appeared in 대장금 (Jewel in the Palace) and has been used in many period dramas for atmospheric forest scenes. A 2-hour bus journey from Gwangju makes it a feasible day trip.
남이섬 (Nami Island)
The tree-lined paths of Nami Island in 가평 (Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province) became iconic through 겨울연가 (Winter Sonata) — the drama that launched the first wave of Korean tourism from Japan and is considered the origin point of Hallyu travel. The island is now a full cultural park with specific Winter Sonata monuments and trails. Accessible by ferry from Gapyeong station (1.5 hours from Seoul by train).
춘천 (Chuncheon)
겨울연가's filming continued in Chuncheon — the 남이섬 ferry terminal town has 겨울연가 statues, and the city's lakeside areas appear throughout the drama. 낭만닥터 김사부 (Dr. Romantic) filmed at a Chuncheon hospital location.
안동 하회마을 (Andong Hahoe Village)
A UNESCO World Heritage Site — a living traditional village unchanged in architectural form for centuries. Used in 미스터 션샤인 and several historical dramas. The setting is genuinely extraordinary — a village on a bend in a river, surrounded by mountains.
Tip — 촬영지 지도 앱 (Filming Location Apps): The Korea Tourism Organization's 대한민국 구석구석 (Goseokgoseok) app includes a K-Drama filming location section with maps, photos, and navigation. Naver Maps often has user-submitted tags marking specific filming spots — search the drama title plus 촬영지 (filming location).

방문 시 에티켓(Visiting Etiquette)
Many filming locations are real neighborhoods with real residents. 북촌 한옥마을 and 안동 하회마을 in particular have issued requests to visitors: keep noise down, don't peer into private homes, don't visit early morning or late evening when residents are sleeping.
The locations that have built visitor infrastructure — 남이섬, 전주 한옥마을, the palaces — can absorb tourism well. The residential neighborhoods cannot. Treat them accordingly.
