IVE (아이브): The Concept Girl Group of the 4th Generation
Six members, a self-love philosophy, and back-to-back hits that made them one of K-Pop's fastest-rising acts.

IVE debuted in December 2021 with "ELEVEN" — a song about believing you're everything you need. The track went #1 on the Gaon Chart. Five months later, "LOVE DIVE" did the same. The year after that, "After LIKE" completed a hat-trick. Three consecutive #1 Gaon singles from a group that hadn't existed two years earlier. The fourth generation K-Pop landscape is crowded; IVE separated from it quickly.
The Members
Name | Role(s) | From |
|---|---|---|
Yujin (An Yu-jin) | Leader, vocalist | Cheongju, South Korea |
Gaeul (Kim Gae-ul) | Vocalist | Seoul, South Korea |
Rei (Naoi Rei) | Vocalist | Shizuoka, Japan |
Wonyoung (Jang Won-young) | Vocalist, visual | Seoul, South Korea |
Liz (Kim Ji-won) | Main vocalist | Daejeon, South Korea |
Leeseo (Lee Hyun-seo) | Vocalist, maknae | Seoul, South Korea |
Two members — Yujin and Wonyoung — were previously members of IZ*ONE, a project group formed through the Produce 48 survival show (2018). Their existing fanbases and high individual profiles gave IVE an unusually strong launch platform. Wonyoung in particular had become one of the most individually famous K-Pop idols in Korea before IVE's debut — her transition from IZ*ONE's visual center to IVE's co-leader brought significant media attention.
The Starship Approach
IVE is managed by Starship Entertainment — a mid-tier agency that, with IVE, produced its biggest act by far. Starship's approach with IVE has been notable for its consistency: a clearly defined concept philosophy, high production values, and a content cadence that maintained momentum without the burnout pace of some competitors.
The concept philosophy centers on self-love and self-confidence — the idea that the members, and by extension the fans, are sufficient as they are. "ELEVEN" introduced it; "LOVE DIVE" deepened it; the I'VE IVE debut album formalized it.
The Music
IVE's discography is built on pop hooks and confident production — cleaner and more immediately accessible than, say, aespa or NCT 127, but with strong individual identity.
Key tracks:
"ELEVEN" (2021) — debut single; self-love concept established; Gaon #1
"LOVE DIVE" (2022) — arguably their best production; layered hook; Gaon #1
"After LIKE" (2022) — samples Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive"; Gaon #1; the third consecutive chart-topper
"Kitsch" (2023) — Korean indie influences; broader color palette
"I AM" (2023) — first full album title track; continued the self-identity theme
"Baddie" (2023) — darker visual concept; a deliberate image evolution
Tip — Why "After LIKE" worked globally: Sampling Gloria Gaynor was a risk in K-Pop — Western audiences know the original, and comparison is immediate. What IVE did with the sample — building an entirely new melodic and conceptual structure on top of it — worked. The track crossed into Western streaming recommendations in a way purely original K-Pop rarely does for groups that aren't already globally established.
Wonyoung and Yujin: The Dual Visual Dynamic
IVE's marketing architecture centers significantly on the Wonyoung-Yujin pairing — both former IZ*ONE members, both with strong individual identities, and both functioning as distinct visual and personality anchors for the group.
Wonyoung has one of the most recognizable faces in Korean entertainment — her visual presence extends well beyond music into advertising, fashion, and general celebrity status in Korea. Her individual brand is enormous.
Yujin functions as the group's leadership center and performance anchor — less the individual celebrity, more the group's connective tissue.
DIVE — The Fandom
IVE's official fandom name is DIVE — derived from "LOVE DIVE" and the idea of diving into love, or diving into the IVE world. The fandom is young and growing rapidly, particularly in Korea and Southeast Asia.
